“Country Circuit Tours”

Already this year, I have had three separate queries from overseas artists about coming to sing in New Zealand.

We play their music on TLC radio and I consider them VERY good artists. Of the three, one has already mentioned paying her own travel costs.

LIASON PEOPLE
I envisage a circuit to be put in place for such artists to come and perform at. So it would need a liason person in any centre where they can establish a willing relationship with a venue – eg. the club entertainment officer - willing to pay a decent fee for good entertainment.

VENUES
At this stage I would assume that the smaller provincial Cozzie clubs, RSAs and similar wouldn't want to be involved because of artists needing a good return. But that would be for them to say, and not for me to assume.

ARTISTS' PACKAGE
No one can expect any venue to take on someone they have no knowledge of. So a “promotion package” would have to be either put together, or provided by a touring artist. This would need to include some of their music, of course. And the liason person in that area would be responsible for getting it to the right places!

PROMOTION
Of course, if we want people to attend artists' concerts, then of course, the public has to be made aware of who, when, and where. And how much!
Promotion costs would need to be taken into consideration from the fee collected.

ACCOMODATION
Similar to trying to pick up the bigger, suitable venues, I envisage suitable motels, close to the venue if possible, being selected, and asked to become involved and be the motel of choice for each visiting  artist on the circuit.

Attention artists wishing to record albums...Please Note...

Recently a few albums received for airplay on TLC radio have no AMCOS Clearance showing on them.
There seems to be some misconception about the need to register recordings with APRA/AMCOS.
Everyone  making a CD of cover songs has to go through APRA / AMCOS and get a licence.
Even if it is non profit it still has to be done as the songwriters should get royalties from their songs being used.
Any song that is used without the songwriters' permission or not through AMCOS could be facing a very large fine and possibly a legal fight.
It is in your best interest to licence all of your recordings the proper way as to not result in this.

Home hosting isn't out of the question either, but it's not always convenient, for either party.

TRAVEL
FreewheelingNZ has offered some assistance.

SOME ONE
If anyone knows of some person who loves country music, and shares our desire to get good country artists travelling NZ, is prepared to work for nothing, but has an ability to carry out aspects of getting such tours working, please GRAB him/her and put this idea to him/her.
With someone who is knowledgeable spear-heading this idea, that would make it easier for everyone to carry out their part of it.

IN CONCLUSION
I realise there are aspects I have not raised, or indeed not yet thought of. And as I said at the start, talk is easy. Putting it all into practise is a lot harder. But we need to start somewhere.

I feel New Zealanders miss out on a lot of good Independent  artists, simply because the promotion vehicle to help them get to and around NZ is non-existent.

There is nothing to stop us taking on NZ artists in this way, either.
I have to admit to feeling rather ashamed to say when asked about trips to New Zealand, that there is nothing on the level they are thinking about, to link up with here and bring their talent to our country!

Please pass this one to anyone you think would be interested to help.

FEBRUARY 2009
MARCH 2009
Small town New Zealand, war wounded but far from down is the setting for this at times tragic, but more often humorous perception of the world through the eyes of a child.

From Branston, a fictitious small town with a fishing industry, and a foundry, a clothing factory, all geared for war, to Te Toko, equally fictitious, a small South Waikato timber milling village, long since gone from our makeup.

The exploits of Jimmy Law, will not only cause you to laugh out loud, but probably, quietly shed the odd tear as well.

It will play with the emotions of any who cherish memories of the way things once were, or any who hold values long since lost to our society. Dignity, self respect, respect for others and above all else, making fun…
It's not country, but it's  about our country!
In what is being billed as the Greatest Hits Live, Simply Red lead by charismatic main man Mick Hucknall, will revisit many of the highlights of their incredible 25 year, 10 album career, in winery shows around the country this Summer.
